ICP 2 #4

Thumbnail Sketches – During this session I thought about how I would design posters by hand rendering some rough sketches in my journal, I found that writing everything in my journal as well as drawing was my most effective way of staying focused. Next I will begin to design on screen and screenshot my development.

Visual Research – poster ads

During this lesson I did some visual research on how Tesco – every little helps advertises themselves to inspire me with my work so I can get my posters to fit in with their style. One of the requirements on the brief was to keep the style and information of my designs humble and simple, which I kept in mind.

As soon as I finished discussing my brief with my tutor, I began researching Tesco – every little helps and how their campaign works. Along the years Tesco has achieved many rounds of applauds, by working with certain companies and campaigns to help the nation. Below are the links I used to research my brief.

The aim of this module is to challenge us to respond to challenges in a specific and realistic industrial context in order to generate portfolio or showreel quality professional work in line with career aspirations.

This part of ICP was the second part. We had the option of choosing another brief to complete our module that’s 30 credits altogether. After speaking with my tutor David and my Css I decided to go with the Tesco – every little helps brief. The brief I chose is below.

Today I finished creating the clipping masks, I then exported them into photoshop and began creating the phones. I then exported them back into Illustrator scaled them down and tried out different layouts, using guides to help me scale them down to the same size.

After turning the formats into tiffs I took them into illustrator and began making them into clipping masks I also created my chatroom icon using the pen tool around the speech bubble and I used the magic wand in photoshop to remove the background. I really enjoyed creating these it really helped boost my spirits as I’ve not been too well lately, this module was my distraction and definitely made me feel a lot better. I also made sure I was saving my work every 15 minutes (from past experience).

ICP #4

Today I began digitally creating my design on screen. I had to go onto Spotify and and screenshot aspects of the app to incorporate into my design to make it look as realistic as possible as being part of the app. Below is some of the images I had to screenshot from app. I also collected a wifi icon, battery icon – to make the phone look realistic with the app to look as though it’s actually on screen. I also saved an image of a speech bubble and the Spotify logo to help create the Spotify chatroom icon. Taking these screenshots would allow me to put my own screen together almost like taking pieces of a puzzle and putting them together. I downloaded a font called ‘caviar dreams’ from dafont.com as it was the closest to the one Spotify uses.

I also went onto https://www.mockupworld.co and found an iPhone 11 Pro mock up I wanted to use for my work to place my clipping masks on. First I went into photoshop and went around the shape of the phone with the pen tool and then pasted the shape into illustrator and used it as a stencil for my designs.

I then tried to take them into illustrator to create clipping masks using the images/screenshots I collected however they began coming out pixelated which I very quickly realised it’s to stop copyright from happening, so I problem solved by taking them into photoshop and saved them as psd’s and then took them into illustrator.

Originally I was going to create Posters, however after my presentation I realised that the brief was asking for more of a ux/ui design. I had no idea what that was as I had never done that before, but as I started to do more research on it I was able to get the hang of it and even managed to summarise it to myself as ‘a digital pitch’. I drew out a few rough thumbnail sketches of my idea which is placed below.

The first three labelled as option 1 were going to be the typical poster ads that you get on billboards and on ads on your phone. They were going advertise ‘being in the moment even apart’ using Spotify – This idea came from the current circumstances we’re all going through and I wanted to incorporate that in this brief and Spotify wants you to communicate and share your playlists easily with your social friends and create a feature within Spotify making it possible to do that. However after my tutors feedback I quickly realised what it was asking off me and was able to get straight on the ball with sketching out new thumbnail sketches helping me to get an idea of what I wanted to do. I then began to do some visual research and collected a couple of ux designs to show in my presentation. These helped me realise what the brief was asking for me to do.

After having a look at a few examples online I knew what I wanted to create. I want to design a Spotify chatroom a feature within Spotify that helps their users share their music playlists, podcasts, artists and more to their most influential friends and social platforms
